Two-Day Workshop With Doug Chiang

Last September, the aspiring designers in Malaysia were in good fortune to sit in with Doug Chiang, the renowned Oscar-winning production design master who was giving two-day workshops in The One Academy. The event has gained good responses from the fellow design students as well as working professionals, all wanting to be a member of Doug Chiang’s art department although it was only for two days.

The Force is strong with this one.

Doug Chiang’s Seminar Begins Here!

“Be An Excellent Production Designer” Seminar conducted by Doug Chiang was co-organized by MDeC, The One Academy together with Studio Climb and S.T.A.G.E. Dedicated for art and design students as well as production design industry professionals, it was initiated on September 5th, 2011 at Auditorium Level 1, Technology Park Malaysia (TPM).

Doug’s sharing was highly inspiring for the audience.

After 6 months of planning, Doug Chiang was finally arriving to KLIA from San Francisco to conduct his debut seminar and workshops. We almost shared the same kind of nervousness as Spencer when we were counting down the days before Doug’s arrival. Despite that feeling, we were all ready to bring the best to the audience.

To spice up the event, S.T.A.G.E as a co-organizer curated a mini exhibition to showcase a range of artworks before the seminar hall entrance. It has featured over 50 pieces of artworks associated with Studio Climb’s projects including storyboards, color scripts, character designs and concept art etc. In the hope of cultivating new talents in the realm of animation pre-production design, S.T.A.G.E’s November intake is now opened for registration. Doug Chiang’s Arrival At Studio Climb

This month, MSC Malaysia and The One Academy have co-organized the “Professional Seminar : Be an Excellent Production Designer”. A debut seminar by Doug Chiang, the Academy Award-winning production design master who’s known for his works such as Star Wars 1 & 2, Beowulf, Terminator 2, The Polar Express, A Christmas Carol etc. I would say it was a seminar not to be missed by any production artists, sci-fi feature film lovers, or even fans of Star Wars prequel. (If you missed this, stay tune to our website and we’ll bring you more interesting updates about new events
like this.)

Welcome Doug! We’re so thrilled to have you here!

As members of Studio Climb, we were huge fans (if not the biggest) of Doug’s works. It is evident during Doug’s visit at Studio Climb before the event started. Stacks of movie art books, DVDs and table-full of Star Wars 1 & 2 figurines all displayed before him as some kind of warm greetings, or it’s our plain hope that he’d sign all of them for us (*grins*). But of course, he was introduced to everyone and shown around the studio before we laid our greedy requests.
